What is the standard of care required for an expert to be considered in a negligence action?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Laidar Holdings Ltd. v. Lindt & Sprungli (Canada) Inc., 2015 BCSC 845 (CanLII):

In a negligence action, it is not normally necessary to adduce expert evidence to establish the standard of care. It is generally a matter to be determined by the trier of fact based on common experience, bearing in mind any legislation, policies or customs relevant to the activity in question: Burbank v. R.T.B., 2007 BCCA 215, at para. 57.
