Is aggravating damages a separate head of damages?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Gracey (Guardian of) v. Scott, 2002 BCSC 1209 (CanLII):

The law is not entirely clear concerning whether aggravating damages should be a separate head of damages, or simply considered together with general damages. However, as stated by Southin J.A. in Brown v. Cole, supra, at para. 100, it is an error in law to double count.
