What is the current state of the law regarding modifications to fuel systems in vehicles from the 1970s to the 1990s?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Ernewein, Bonneau v. General Motors of Canada, 2004 BCSC 1462 (CanLII):

The defendants say that between the period of 1973 to 1991, modifications were made to the fuel systems of their vehicles. While that may be established on the evidence, what remains common is the placement of the fuel tanks during this period of time. Thus, if the purported modification is established at trial, then this may require nuanced answers in the form of sub-classes (See Reid v. Ford Motor Company, supra).
