What is the burden of proving that the accused is guilty of the offence with which he is charged?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v J.V.D., 2016 ONSC 4462 (CanLII):

To begin with, the Crown bears the burden of proving that the accused is guilty of the offence with which he is charged beyond a reasonable doubt. Proof to a mathematical certainty is not required as that would be virtually impossible to achieve: R v. Liftchus, 1997 CanLII 319 (SCC), [1997] 3 S.C.R. 320.
