In some of the above cases (in particular in the Hart v. Hart and M.(C.) v. P.(R.) cases), the focus of the court was not whether a claim of maintenance could be made by the stepfather against the natural parent. Rather, in these cases the focus pertained to the claim itself, not on the right to bring it.
