As to the inheritance, the trial judge, citing Todd v. Freeman, 2005 BCCA 519, 46 B.C.L.R. (4th) 207, acknowledged a contingent asset may be a family asset if the evidence demonstrates the parties had looked to the asset for the family’s future financial security. He concluded, however, the evidence did not support such a finding here:
