Is there a much heavier burden on a vehicle turning left than a straight moving vehicle?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Occhipinti v. National Car Rental, 2003 BCPC 314 (CanLII):

Justice Burnyeat cites several B.C. decisions which held that there was a much heavier burden on the vehicle turning left than on the straight-moving vehicle. He cites Hedges v. Robinson, [1987] B.C.J. No. 3039, B.C.S.C., Moody v. Sandau, [1988] B.C.J. No. 528. In those cases, liability was split 80 percent for the dominant and 20 percent for the subservient.
