In R v. Scott, 1996 NSCA 165, the offender, who was then twenty years old, appealed a sentence of two years less one day in jail to be followed by twelve months on probation for a robbery charge. She had no prior criminal record. She had a difficult upbringing due to her physical and mental health issues, her mother’s abuse of alcohol and being sexually abused by a member of her family. She left school at age sixteen to move to Calgary and soon after, began a relationship with a twenty-seven-year-old man who was the father of her young children.
