The robust and pragmatic approach under the “but for” test allows for there to be more than one cause of an injury. As long at the defendant caused or contributed to the injury in a material way (i.e., beyond the de minimis range), the defendant is liable: Chappell v. Loyie, 2016 BCSC 1722 at para. 5.
