The valuation of the family assets is also to be fixed as of the date of trial. The evidence on valuation of the family assets in this case was imperfect. However, I am mindful of the court’s caution in Bodine-Shah v. Shah, 2014 BCCA 191 at paras. 57 and 58, that the courts should strive to achieve finality for the parties in matrimonial disputes. In some circumstances, this overarching objective may overtake achieving perfect justice.
