The approach of Scurfield, J. of this court in his recent decision in de Gobeo v. de Gobeo, 2005 MBQB 261 is, in my view, correct (at para. 38): Marriage per se does not automatically entitle a spouse to support much less indefinite support. Neither does the objective of self-sufficiency automatically disentitle a spouse to continued support after a fixed period of time.
