The following excerpt is from Sullivan v. City of Sacramento, 190 Cal.App.3d 1070, 235 Cal.Rptr. 844 (Cal. App. 1987):
However, once one undertakes to come to the aid of another he is "under a duty to exercise due care ... and is liable if (a) his failure to exercise such care increases the risk of such harm, or (b) the harm is suffered because of [190 Cal.App.3d 1078] the other's reliance upon the undertaking."
