The Sixth Amendment guarantees a criminal defendant the right to counsel, and with that guarantee comes the correlative right that such representation be free from conflicts of interest. Wood v. Georgia, 450 U.S. 261, 271, 101 S.Ct. 1097, 67 L.Ed.2d 220 (1981). Whether a defendant's lawyer's representation violates this right is a mixed question of law and fact that we review de novo.
