The rationale for imposing an indefinite suspension before the suspension for a defined time is outlined in Law Society of Ontario v. Regan, 2019 ONLSTH 48. The consecutive suspensions provide an incentive for the Licensee to respond quickly and bring himself into compliance so as to move past the first suspension period. I therefore order that the seven-month suspension not begin until after the Licensee has responded fully, pending which he will be suspended indefinitely.
The approach to costs orders is outlined in Law Society of Ontario v. Perrelli, 2018 ONLSTH 80, and involves determining the appropriate range and ensuring that the cost order is within that range.
