In most cases, housekeeping services have been provided by other family members in the household. Such claims are carefully scrutinised because the services must be above and beyond the ordinary give and take to be expected in a home and not those that would have been done by others in any event: see Hardychuck v. Johnstone, 2012 BCSC 1359 at para. 168. Here, the services were provided by a close friend rather than a member of the household. While this does not change the entitlement (this was contemplated in McTavish at para. 29), there is still a need to scrutinise the claim to ensure it is reasonable.
