A claimant can be disqualified from receiving employment insurance benefits if they lost their employment because of their misconduct. It is important to keep in mind that the purpose of employment insurance benefits is to compensate workers who involuntarily lost their jobs and are unable to work (Canada v. Gagnon 1988 CanLII 48 (SCC), [1988] 2 SCR 29).
