The Officer acknowledged that domestic violence in Guyana is a widespread phenomenon. However, a review of the objective country documentation indicated that the state of Guyana has taken responsibility to alleviate the problem of domestic violence through the following measures: i. developing educational programs; ii. publishing reports; iii. raising public awareness; iv. establishing support services for abused women; and v. police training on effective handling of domestic abuse cases and the formation of specialized domestic abuse units in each police division.
