Does the doctrine of transferred intent apply to a defendant who is convicted of attempted murder?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Gaines, H043645 (Cal. App. 2018):

7. Defendant's arguments pertain to both his murder conviction and his attempted murder conviction. As to his attempted murder conviction, however, his argument only concerns "the combination of mistake of fact and self-defense," since, as he acknowledges, "the doctrine of transferred intent does not apply to attempted murder." (See People v. Bland (2002) 28 Cal.4th 313, 331.)
