Does a prospective jury need to be sworn in before they can be sworn as jurors?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Ramirez, B295957 (Cal. App. 2020):

2. "Technically, members of the venire panel do not become jurors until they have been accepted by the court and counsel and sworn as jurors." (People v. Lenix (2008) 44 Cal.4th 602, 608, fn. 4 (Lenix).) We refer to the prospective jurors as "panelists." (Ibid.)

3. Moreno is not a party to this appeal.
