Does a police officer have the authority to question defendant about his true name?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Munoz, E063620 (Cal. App. 2017):

Questioning defendant about his true name was reasonably related to police administrative procedures. (Pennsylvania v. Muniz, supra, 496 U.S. at pp. 601-602.) As discussed fully below, there is no merit to defendant's speculation that, although he was using a false identification, he might not have been arrested that night if he had not disclosed his true name.
