Does a federal judge have jurisdiction to grant attorney's fees on appeal of an order of remand?

MultiRegion, United States of America

The following excerpt is from TTM Systems, Ltd. v. KMC Trading, 983 F.2d 1077 (9th Cir. 1993):

1 The parties neither dispute the propriety of the remand nor contest this court's jurisdiction over the attorney's fee issue. See 28 U.S.C. 1447(d) (generally precluding review on appeal of remand order); Schmitt v. Insurance Co. of N. Am., 845 F.2d 1546, 1551 (9th Cir.1988). ("The fact that section 1447(d) bars review of the district court's order of remand does not affect our jurisdiction to review that portion of the district court's order awarding attorney's fees to the plaintiffs").
