Is there any common law common law concept or common law relation to corporate shields or corporate vale?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Broda v. Broda, 2001 CanLII 61011 (AB QB):

Nevertheless, it does seem to me that any concept of common law relative to corporate shields or the corporate vale or the corporate identity issue, particularly dating back to Salomon v. Salomon & Co. [(1896), [1897] A.C. 22 (U.K. H.L.)], must yield to intrusions that exist by legislation. And I am of the opinion that there is legislative intrusion here that was intended by the legislature of Alberta in relation to 10(a).
