What is the impact of a psychological assessment on a parent's ability to parent?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Halton Children’s Aid Society v. A.W., 2016 ONCJ 358 (CanLII):

[261] Courts should always treat assessments with caution. A psychological assessment is not determinative of a parent's ability to parent. The assessor does not have the benefit of the full evidentiary record that the judge has. These reports, by their very nature, are predictive. They are just one piece of evidence. It is important for the court is to evaluate how the findings do or do not correspond with the evidence presented. See Children’s Aid Society of Toronto v. S.C., [2016] O.J. No. 2124, at par. 141.
