Cano apply for a certificate of probable cause to challenge the denial of his motion to withdraw his plea?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Cano, 2d Crim. No. B300406 (Cal. App. 2020):

Cano neither requested nor obtained a certificate of probable cause from the trial court. His notice of appeal states that he challenges only his sentence or other matters that do not affect the validity of his plea. (Cal. Rules of Court, rule 8.304(b)(4)(B).) He does not challenge the denial of the motion to withdraw his plea. (Cf. People v. Johnson (2009) 47 Cal.4th 668, 679 [certificate required for challenge to denial of motion to withdraw plea].)
