The following excerpt is from People v. Villarino, 7 Cal.App.3d 56, 86 Cal.Rptr. 338 (Cal. App. 1970):
'(S)pecimens may be made in court in the view of the court or jury for the express purpose of comparison. Thus, a witness may be directed in cross-examination to write in open court, in order that the jury may compare such writing with the controverted signature.' (29 Am.Jur.2d 904.)
