Can a criminal defendant be punished more than once for the same criminal act or for a series of criminal acts?

"A criminal defendant cannot be punished more than once for the same criminal act or for a series of criminal acts committed 'incident to one objective.' ([Citation]; see 654.) However, as a general matter, a criminal defendant can suffer multiple convictions for a single criminal act or series of related criminal acts.
