In Campbell v. Campbell, 2009 BCSC 1330, the petitioner had a variety of health concerns after a 23 year marriage and needed financial support. The respondent’s ability to pay her, however, had been considerably compromised since their divorce: he had declared bankruptcy as a result of his alcoholism and suffered a stroke which rendered him unable to work. Hinkson J. (as he then was) determined that the appropriate response was to provide spousal support indefinitely.
