What is the effect on spousal and child support when the petitioner stops paying child support?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from C.V.D. v. I.D., 2005 MBQB 261 (CanLII):

Shortly after the petitioner assumed primary care and control of their child, he also stopped paying spousal support. He had been supporting the respondent for more than six years at this point. She had also returned to work. After a flurry of legal activity, he agreed to resume paying spousal support until such time as this court formally disposed of the property and support issues. The petitioner has never requested child support from the respondent and he does not do so in this hearing. SPOUSAL SUPPORT PRINCIPLES - BRACKLOW v. BRACKLOW
