Is an acquittal on a conspiracy charge inconsistent with a conviction on the underlying substantive offence?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. Grewall, Grewall & Toor, 2001 BCSC 48 (CanLII):

By similar reasoning, it should be noted that an acquittal on a conspiracy charge and a conviction on a charge of committing the underlying substantive offence are not inconsistent verdicts. They are two distinct offenses: Koury v. R., 1964 CanLII 2 (SCC), [1964] 2 C.C.C. 97 (S.C.C.).
